Jennie Yoost, MD, a fellowship-trained pediatric and adolescent gynecologist, recently joined the medical staffs of Marshall Health and Cabell Huntington Hospital.  Dr. Yoost is the only fellowship-trained pediatric and adolescent gynecologist practicing in the state of West Virginia.

Dr. Yoost specializes in gynecologic care for children and adolescents. She is currently accepting new patients in her office in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the Marshall University Joan C. Edwards School of Medicine. She will also see patients at the Hoops Family Children’s Hospital at Cabell Huntington Hospital.

Pediatric and adolescent gynecology is an emerging specialty that focuses on a wide spectrum of gynecologic disorders in younger patients.  Dr. Yoost can address problems such as pelvic pain, menstrual disorders, concerns with development, along with many other gynecologic problems in kids and teens.  Care is provided in an atmosphere that allows patients, as well as parents, to feel comfortable talking about their health.

“West Virginia ranks 43rd nationally in teen birth rates,” said Dr. David Jude, Chairman of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the Marshall University Joan C. Edwards School of Medicine. “Nearly 45 out of every 1000 teen girls in the state will have a child and a significant number of these pregnancies are unintended. The goal of our pediatric and adolescent gynecology program is not only to provide care to individual patients, but to have a positive impact on the overall reproductive health of adolescents in West Virginia. We are optimistic that Dr. Yoost’s expertise will help this mission.”

Dr. Yoost earned her medical degree at the University of Louisville School of Medicine.  Her residency training in obstetrics and gynecology was completed at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston.  She then returned to Louisville to complete her fellowship training in pediatric and adolescent gynecology at Kosair Children’s Hospital and the University of Louisville Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology.
