Our Mission
The research mission of Marshall Family and Community Health is to partake in research and scholarly acts that make meaningful contributions to the discipline of Family Medicine and the broader basis of medical knowledge while emphasizing our commitment to the improvement of rural, small town, and underserved health care for the people of our region, the enrichment of our educational approaches for residents and students, and the betterment of our physicians.

From the Department Chair

Petrany02“Scholarship” is the life-blood of an academic institution. At Marshall Family and Community Health we pride ourselves on our commitment to quality scholarship in all of its forms. It provides the very foundation of our clinical and teaching activities. Our faculty is dedicated to advancing the knowledge of medicine as it relates to our increasingly important specialty. We do that in many different ways, including innovative programs and research in family medicine education and clinical care. Our faculty members are sought throughout the region, the country, and the world to share their expertise. Given our location in beautiful West Virginia, it follows that we have a particular interest in addressing the health care issues of rural and small town communities. Increasingly, research demonstrates the enormous health benefits provided by the presence of a well-trained family physician in such communities. This website offers a glimpse of our department’s very active scholarly work."
